Getting fit on a budget: Don’t break the bank to get in shape

Getting fit can be tough as you don’t only have to find the time, often you’ll need to find some extra cash too. From a new pair of running shoes to expensive gear with logos plastered all over it, the cost can stack up. That’s before you’ve factored in the gym membership or shelled out money for group exercise classes. Of course, if you really want to see some results, you’ll need to hire a personal trainer, right?

Hold on there. Getting in shape and feeling great doesn’t have to put a huge strain on your bank balance. Moving is free and it’s possible to get the results you want with a little research, a bit of time and some comfy clothes.

For a start, you don’t need to go to a gym to run. There’s a whole world outside your front door. Slip on your shoes and just run – OK, so don’t do a Forrest Gump and never stop. If you don’t like running or don’t think you’re up to speed yet, then a brisk walk should do the trick. All you need to do is get your heart rate up to start burning calories.

Interested in building muscle and toning? Get your hands on a yoga book and follow some of the basic exercises until you’re ready to move up to the next level. Instead of snapping up a pair of those tiny dumbbells, open up your cupboard and grab the two heaviest cans you can find. Then grab onto them tightly and slowly move your arms out and in. Getting fit on a budget is easy.
